This position is responsible for performing activities relating to and supporting the coordination, training, and supervision of pharmacy technicians in the Operating Room and Cardiovascular Pharmacies. Duties and responsibilities will include activities related to the practice of pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. This includes preparation, compounding, packaging, storing, recording, processing, dispensing, labeling and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor will also provide functional supervision of Pharmacy Technicians, collect and or/record metrics, quality and/or surveillance data, and develop and implement process improvements. This is a full-time position requiring employees to report on-site, with minimal remote work as needed.

Essential:
The Pharmacy Technician Training Supervisor will have attained mastery in multiple roles within pharmacy practice. This individual will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all technical aspects of the Operating Room and Cardiovascular Center Pharmacies, as well as additional tasks and roles, including:
Demonstrates ongoing competency in all technician duties and responsibilities (refer to Pharmacy Technician Associate, Intermediate, and Senior job descriptions)
Coordinates all aspects of the Operating Room and Cardiovascular Center Pharmacies, including:
o Developing policies and procedures
o Recruiting
o Coordinating and participating in applicant evaluations
o Coordinating pharmacy technician schedules
o Developing and coordinating new employee training schedules.
Provide supervision of pharmacy technicians
Coordinates and participates in the recruiting, hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, training, promotions, disciplinary actions, vacation schedules, and reviewing of payroll records and time reports for pharmacy technicians
Contributes to patient care/staffing in a pharmacy technician role (up to 40% of time/effort), depending on the enrollment and needs of the Pharmacy Technician Training Program
Assists in training of other employees as needed
Supports Pharmacy Technician Trainers across all pharmacy work areas, providing ongoing assessment of employee training and additional training/ remediation as needed
Assists in the development and preparation of training manuals and procedural materials
Facilitates the training and implementation of work practice changes and process improvement initiatives and oversees day to day workflow
Gathers area metrics and summarizes information in reports
Overseeing management of pharmaceutical supply inventory
Contribute to the strategic planning and achievement of departmental goals and objectives
Assists with problem solving and process improvements
Participates as an active member of internal work groups/committees
Coordinates, oversees, and implements employee off-boarding
Provides expertise, oversight, and management of competency assessments as needed
Assesses pharmacy technician and pharmacy intern staff needs for education, skill, and professional development, and develops appropriate training, education, and competency assessment plans to address highest needs, at least annually
The percentage mix of these duties will vary depending on the needs of the Pharmacy Technician Training Program and the patient care/staffing needs of the Department.

Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
Current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, that meets the State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements is necessary. This includes:
A temporary pharmacy technician license (valid for 1 year and is non-renewable) or a full pharmacy technician license upon hire
If the successful candidate has or obtains a temporary pharmacy technician license, s/he must successfully obtain a full pharmacy technician license before the temporary license expires
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred
Excellent communication skills, including fluency in writing, reading and speaking English
Demonstrated excellent teaching and/or training skills
Proficient computer skills and literacy, including Windows-based and Microsoft Office-based programs
Proficiency in basic mathematic skills relevant to pharmacy technician responsibilities

Must be able to prioritize tasks with accuracy and dependability.

The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.
This schedule for this position may vary and include some weekend and holiday coverage
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position will report to the Pharmacy Manager, CVC Pharmacy, Surgery and Cardiovascular Services.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This individual will supervise pharmacy technician employees in the Operating Room and Cardiovascular Center Pharmacies.
